- Wrap me up, I'm cold -
The proposal to make this CD book about the traditional romances of Colombia stems from multiple interests: on one hand, a doctoral research project at the Latin American History Department of the University Pablo de Olavide in Seville, Spain. And, on the other hand, the desire to recognize and appropriate other musical models present in the cultural diversity of Colombia. We wanted to study these romances and reinterpret them in a contemporary vocal idiom, without forgetting their traditional sonorities, and we wanted to let them be known so that Colombia hears herself again through these ancient-new songs. We are talking about a sub-region of the Pacific coast in the north west of Colombia, the basin of the Atrato River in the states of Chocó and Antioquia. This CD book sets in context the history of romances in the Atrato river culture and presents a selection of 16 songs from more than 250 chants compiled during 7 years of research. Accompanied by guest musicians, Claudia Gomez's voice becomes "black romance", wrapping up our souls. Alejandro Tobon, researcher and author of the 100 page booklet that accompanies this CD.
